Please refer to the following updates for the week of January 17th.
We are starting off the second semester strong with UIL prep in 7th and 8th grade classes and a focus on sight reading in beginning classes.
Choir UIL will take place during the school day on March 8th and 9th- Concert Girls, Chorale Girls, and Chorale Boys classes will participate in this contest. In accordance with UIL rules, students must be academically eligible to participate in the choir UIL contest. Students who do not pass the 4th six weeks will be unable to participate and will be given an alternate assignment to complete as a make up for their absence at this contest. Please be diligent in helping your student stay on top of their grades/assignments so we have a high percentage of participation in this contest.
Most choir assignments will be completed during the class period assigned. Students are able to correct any grade lower than a 70 for up to a grade of 70. Students are expected to turn in classwork assignments during the assigned class period. Choir assignments are often short and students are encouraged to take as much time as necessary in class to complete them.
Bell work is assigned on a weekly basis. Students are expected to answer questions/complete exercises each day in the first five minutes of class. Bell work is due on Friday and will only be accepted late in cases of Friday absences.
Ear Training Assignment
All Choir classes have completed an ear training assignment. This assignment focuses on developing student recognition of interval relationships and sol fege identification which are crucial skills for sight reading. This assignment involved me playing pitches on the piano and students writing down what they heard. Students who made a grade of less than 70 on this assignment and would like to correct for a higher grade or were absent the day of this activity will need to come to the make up session after school on Thursday, January 19th from 4:15 to 4:30. If your student is unable to come to this makeup session, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss other options.
Harmony will perform for the Virtual Curriculum night on Tuesday, January 17th. Harmony students will need to be in the choir room, dressed in their Harmony uniform by 5:30pm. Students may stay after school if they wish- pizza will be provided. Our performance time is 6:30pm. Students may leave after we perform.
Vivace rehearsals will start again in mid-February. Details will follow shortly.
